About the MAPP Test

Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) requires that all graduating seniors take the MAPP test.  Early in your last semester as a student at CUW you will receive information by campus mail and by e-mail telling you how to go about registering to take this test.  Multiple lab times will be available for your convenience.

The Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP) test is a measure of college-level reading, mathematics, writing, and critical thinking in the context of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The MAPP test is designed for colleges and universities to assess their general education outcomes, so they may improve the quality of instruction and learning. It focuses on the academic skills developed through general education courses, rather than on the knowledge acquired about the subjects taught in these courses. Because the MAPP test is an integrated skills assessment, all skills are measured in one test - no need for separate tests and multiple administrations.

The MAPP test yields multiple indicators for students and groups of students. These indicators provide the specific information institutions need to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in their curriculum and teaching methods. Since institutions have multiple needs in using assessment instruments, the MAPP test yields both scaled scores and proficiency classifications.

Institutions benefit from the use of the tests as the scores can be used for detailed curriculum review and evaluation, documenting program effectiveness and improvement for accreditation agencies and other stakeholders, and in the strategic planning process. Students benefit from the tests by having an effective metric to determine their own level of achievement, comparing their scores with those of other students at their institution and with national comparative data.
