PURPOSE AND GOALS: 

The charter for the Communication Club was designed and edited by Communication majors David Thrasher (2004 graduate) and Roger Baum (2005 graduate).  

The purpose of the club is to:

1. provide networking and support for Communication job placement,
2. sponsor trips to local businesses and organizations that model cutting-edge communication practices,
3. invite guest speakers to give presentations on best practices in different communication fields,
4. support service and outreach in the community by club members, and,
5. promote opportunities for social interaction among those interested in Communication.

COMMUNICATION CLUB ACTIVITIES 2004-2005:

1. A trip to Miller Park to tour the facilities and investigate possible internship opportunities
2. A winter banquet; Speaker: David Beyer, Assistant to the Coaches of the Miami Heat..  Dave is a 2001 Mass Communication graduate.  He spoke on “How to obtain Internships and to Network for Jobs in Professional Sports Organizations.”
3. Attending a newly released movie, “Guess Who,” depicting the challenges and blessings of overcoming cultural differences.
4. Plan the Spring Communication Department Banquet.  The guest speaker this year will be Dennis Blasius, Assistant to the Directors of the Federal Product Safety Commission in Washington D.C.   Dennis will speak on "How to obtain federal internships and federal jobs" at the May 2 banquet.
