Radiologic Technology

Program Overview

The registered radiologic technologist (radiographer) utilizes knowledge of human anatomy and disease, mathematics, physics and operation of radiation-producing equipment for diagnostic purposes. A strong educational background applies to a variety of advanced areas in diagnostic radiology. Radiologic technologists may be employed in various health care settings, i.e. hospitals or clinics, industry, business, research, administration, or education.

This major is intended to be a four-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. The program is jointly sponsored and is structured such that required and pre-clinical components are conducted by Concordia University, while clinical components are conducted at Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology accredited programs. Successful completion of competency requirements within the clinical program must be achieved prior to graduation.

Clinical Assignments

Students should be aware that the program requires clinical coursework which is divided into four or five sessions. Clinical coursework is usually 8 hours per day and can range from a minimum of 24 to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Clinical portions of the program may include attendance during two summer sessions, which take place between the junior and senior year. This involves full-time clinical assignment, 40 hours per week. Clinical rotations are not limited to one site. Vacation periods are scheduled intermittently during the year.

Accreditation/Certification

The Radiologic Technology Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination in radiography. The program assumes no responsibility for the success of its students in obtaining professional certification or other types of professional licensure.
