BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK
The Social Work Program at Concordia University Wisconsin is a professional degree program and is fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). Initially, students enter the Social Work Program as social work majors and after four semesters, they apply for upper division status. Successfully completing this major makes you a candidate for the Bachelor of Social Work degree, qualifies graduates for advanced standing in the graduate programs that grant the Master of Social Work degree (MSW), and allows students to puirsue certification or licensing for social owrk practice.
A career in social work carries serious responsibilities as well as special rewards in terms of making a difference in the lives of individuals, families, groups, and in communities and organizations. Social workers share a common core of primary values.

Social Work Program Goals and Objectives
Program Goals:
1. Students are prepared for professional generalist practice (ability to select and utilize appropriate methods to work with individuals, families, groups, and communities in a variety of settings.
2. Students develop a strong skill and knowledge base in their practice with diverse groups.
3. Students will develop an understanding of social work values and ethics and demonstrate this understanding through their professional social work practice.
4. Students will be able to apply a research knowledge base to demonstrate critical thinking skills, self evaluation, and the use of appropriate evaluative methods within various practice contexts.
5. Students will draw on their understanding of faith, service, and social justice to provide leadership in the provision of service to and the promotion of social justice to marginalized or oppressed groups.
Program Objectives:
The baccalaureate curriculum is based upon a liberal arts perspective and includes the professional foundation of social work. It will be developed and organized as a coherent and integrated whole. The Program includes the following objectives:
1. Apply critical thinking skills within the contest of professional social work practice.
2. Understand the value base of the profession and its ethical standards and principles, and practice accordingly.
3. Practice without discrimination and with respect, knowledge, and skills related to clients' age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation.
4. Understand the forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination and apply strategies of advocacy and social change that advance social and economic justice.
5. Understand and interpret the history of the social work profession and its contemporary structures and issues.
6. Apply the knowledge and skills of generalist social work practice with systems of all sizes.
7. Use theoretical frameworks supported by empirical evidence to understand individual development and behavior across the life span and the interactions among individuals and between individuals and families, groups, organizations, and communities.
8. Analyze, formulate, and influence social policies.
9. Evaluate research studies, apply research findings to practice, and evaluate their own pracdtice interventions.
10. Use communication skills differentially across client populations, colleagues, and communites.
11. Use supervision and consultation appropriate to social work practice.
12. Fucntion within the structure of organization and service delivery systems and see necessary organization change.
