Academic Requirements

Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and pass all courses in the Adult Education Program in order to graduate.

A student is considered in good standing if a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is maintained.

If, after the completion of at least two modules, the student’s grade point average has fallen below 2.0, the student is placed on academic probation. If. After completing two subsequent modules, the grade point average is above 2.0, the student is removed from probation. If, on the other hand, the grade point average remains below 2.0 after the two subsequent modules, the student may be dismissed from the program.

The student may appeal the dismissal to the Appeals Committee of the Center (consisting of the Center Director, two Concordia instructors appointed by the Director – one who has taught the student and one who has not – plus a Concordia instructor of the student’s choosing). Students who are not readmitted must wait six months from the time the appeal is denied to seek re-admission. If, after this time, they can demonstrate that a deficiency has been removed (e.g., through testing) or a life situation has changed, they may reapply for admission.

The student’s GPA is based only on courses taken at Concordia.

DROPS AND INCOMPLETES

A student who drops a module before the second session will receive a W (withdraw) which does not affect the GPA (grade point average). The student will be credited the tuition charge.

If a student drops a course after the second session or if a student is absent more than four hours, the student will be issued a grade of NC (no credit). The NC designation indicates that the student must retake the course, but there is no impact on the student’s GPA. The student will be charged for the course, but will be allowed to retake the course at no additional charge.

A student who drops a telecourse during the first five weeks will receive a grade of W and a pro-rated refund. If the student decides to retake the telecourse at a later date, the student will need to pay full tuition again. A drop after week 5 will result in a grade of F, which will affect the student’s grade point average and there will be no refund. Again, full tuition will be charged if the student wishes to take the telecourse again.

ABSENCES AND TARDINESS

Because modules in the program are only four-six weeks in length, it is required that students attend each session. If emergency circumstances dictate missing a session, please notify the center secretary and the instructor. If absence patterns develop, students may be asked to meet with the center/program director to justify their continued participation in the program.

If circumstances dictate that a student must be absent from more than one full session, or four full hours in a module, the student will, without exception, be required to repeat the entire module. Students are to be present for the entire four hour session. Instructors are asked to keep records of late arrivals or early departures to be counted as absences. This is due to the fact that the student has missed valuable class time both in the form of lectures presented by the instructor and interaction with classmates. If a student knows that such absences are inevitable (proposed surgery, long planned vacation, etc.) it is better to drop the module and take it at a later time.
