MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COUNSELOR-EDUCATION COURSE OFFERINGS
45 credit program
**48 credits for Non Licensed Teachers**
Please use the guide to register on line located below the Banner Web listing if you have questions.
COUN 543/843 should be the first course taken. For School Counseling Track students you are required to take both COUN 543/843 and COUN 627/927 as the first courses (these two courses are taken together). Students need to complete 45 credit hours. 48 credits are required for those students in the School Counseling Track that do not hold a teaching license. Note that COUN 593/893 and COUN 594/894 are on-campus courses only and are not offered in an E-learning format. All School Counseling Track students without a teaching license must take three additional credits of face to face instruction in classroom management and lesson planning. Students may take this course on campus here at CUW or have a course on a campus near to their home approved by the program director.
Community Counselor Track: Students may apply to begin their Practicum experience after 24 credits. These 24 hours should consist of COUN 543 Counseling Theories and Issues, COUN 584 Human Development, COUN 592 Professional Ethics, COUN 587 Tests and Measurements, COUN 554 Theories of Personality, COUN 552 Social Cultural Foundations, COUN 593 Individual Counseling, and COUN 594 Group Counseling. Upon completion of these courses, you must contact the CUW Graduate Counseling Director, who will assess your readiness skills for beginning the Practicum. The decision will be made on an individual basis by the CUW Graduate Counseling Director. As such, students may be required to take additional credits before securing permission to begin the Practicum.
School Counselor Track: Students may apply to begin their Practicum experience only after completing 24 credits (please see the above mentioned courses) and registering for EDG 928. If you meet these requirements you are to request the School Counseling handbook (which will be emailed to you) from the program director. The handbook includes all the application forms, background check and Practicum information that you will need in order to secure a site for approval.
**Beginning Fall 2008 all on campus courses will be eight weeks long**
