This specialty is designed to prepare master classroom teachers. The program enables the teacher to improve classroom teaching skills and increase understanding of the process of education and the art of teaching. The Master's degree requires thirty-three (33) semester credits.
A master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction provides educators excellent choices of classes for license renewal or to increase expertise in areas of special interest. Portfolio assessment is done throughout the program. Graduates are enabled to improve classroom teaching skills and increase understanding of the process of education and the art of teaching - in short, to become master classroom teachers.
All courses are offered on the main campus in Mequon, at several off-site locations in Wisconsin, (starting in September in Appleton, Germantown, Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Waupan, and Wausau with new locations beginning in March 2009) and by E-Learning. Students taking the program by E-Learning will participate in a one week residence requirement offered each summer in June.
It is not required that a student hold a teaching license for acceptance into the program. We have students enrolled who come from a variety of backgrounds with varying future professional goals.
Concordia is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association; www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org, 312.263.0456.
The program includes 18 credits of required courses and 15 credits of electives. View the course list. A large selection of electives makes it possible for the student to tailor the program to their own needs and interests.
