GRADUATE TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Program Structure
The first eight courses (24 credits) are mandatory. Transfer credits may NOT be used to satisfy these requirements. Note: Students do not have a choice in which order they complete the classes, or when. A cohort of 20 students is accepted into the program each fall and spring. Each cohort works through the eight courses together. Students in certification programs are required to develop and maintain a teaching portfolio. Portfolio development has been worked into the curriculum.
The academic course work will be completed in approximately 11 months. Each class is five weeks long, and meets one night a week from 4:30-8:30 p.m. The program is available on the CUW Mequon campus and in Appleton. Proposed sites include Eau Clare & Wausau in Spring 2008.
Students who successfully complete the academic course work and meet DPI mandates must also complete an entire semester of student teaching during which time they cannot continue in a full-time job.
The program meets the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Chapter PI34 Rules and Regulations.
Students in the program earn graduate credits that can be applied toward a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
