Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitative Science

and Master of Occupational Therapy

Earn both degrees in just 4 1/2 Years

Students who begin their college experience at Concordia may choose to participate in this accelerated studies program. The first 2 years are devoted to completing general education requirements and the study of Rehabilitative Science. Students who complete the required coursework and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with no grade below a B in prerequisite coursework, are guaranteed accepted into the Master of Occupational Therapy program.  Credits completed in the MOT program are added to the undergraduate credits to complete the required 126 credits for graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science degree.

After two years of undergraduate study, an additional 2 1/2 years are required to complete the Master of Occupational Therapy program. The outcome is both a Bachelor degree in Rehabilitation Science and a Master of Occupational Therapy degree in a total of 4 1/2 years.

Students who choose to complete only the BSRS degree have an opportunity to explore a wide range of health care employment opportunities. A Bachelor degree in Rehabilitative Science can qualify an individual for positions in community public health, community mental health, wellness programs, managed care organizations, child-care facilities, adult day-care facilities, pharmaceutical sales, medical sales, assistive living/independent living centers, specialty Alzheimer's disease care centers, fitness programs, nursing homes and hospitals.

NBCOT Exam Information

The total number of MOT graduates from Concordia University Wisconsin who passed the certification exam as first-time new graduate test takers during the year 2005-2007 was 36 out of 39. This resulted in a pass rate of 92.3%.

Additional Requirements

Students must be proficient in computer use before beginning the MOT program.  Student’s ability to use Word, Excel and Power Point programs, as well as e-mail is expected.  A computer proficiency test will be administered the first week of the program to students who have not completed a one credit computer class.

Prior to beginning fieldwork students will need to complete a Wisconsin Criminal Background Check, and hold current certification in infant, child, adult CPR and first aid.

Many clinical agencies will require updated immunizations, a physical, and the results of a caregiver criminal background check before a fieldwork placement will be confirmed. Some agencies may require additional information (drug testing, additional immunizations, etc).

Students will complete six months of full time, or its equivalent, of Level II Fieldwork during the fifth semester of the program. Level II Fieldwork is usually scheduled as two different experiences of three months each. Level II Fieldwork shall be completed within 24 months following completion of academic preparation.

Students may be required to leave the Milwaukee area for fieldwork placements. Transportation to and from fieldwork sites is the responsibility of the student. Housing for Level II fieldwork is also the student's responsibility.  Students will work with the Coordinator of Clinical Education to determine a suitable placement.

Proof of health insurance is required for all students prior to confirming a fieldwork placement. CUW offers a health insurance program for those students who need health insurance coverage.
