Discover Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy enables people to do ''day-to-day'' activities that are important to them despite impairments, activity limitations, or participation restrictions or despite risks for these problems. Occupations are another name for these day-to-day activities.

Occupational therapists work in wide variety of employment settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, hospices, community agencies, mental health agencies, wellness clinics and industry. Increasingly, occupational therapists are entering private practice to provide direct service and consultation to both individual and corporate clients. Therapists are sought as clinicians, administrators, educators, researchers and consultants.

The U.S.Bureau of Labor statistics included Occupational Therapy on it's list of "Fastest Growing Occupations." U.S. News and World Report identified Occupational Therapy as one of the top 25 careers.

Certification and Credentialing Information

MOT graduates (MOT and TOTA Programs) will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board For Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).  After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). In addition, most states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. A felony conviction may affect our graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
