Rev. Roger Mack Pumphrey (Alum 1970) has been elected president of the American College of Counselors at its annual meeting in November.  Rev. Pumphrey is the first African-American to lead the organization in its 26-year history.  He is the president of Saint Martin's College & Seminary in Wauwatosa, WI and of its affiliated R.E.A.C.H. Comprehensive Mental Health Clinic.

 

Rev. John Oberdeck (1972, AA Pre-Seminary) has accepted a Call to CUW as Assistant Director of Lay Ministry and Associate Professor of Theology.  He previously served on the faculty of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.  His wife Virginia (Riemer) Oberdeck (1972, AA) teaches at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, Milwaukee.  They are at home in Brown Deer, Wisconsin.

 

Michael DeLonge (Alum 1973) will be the CIO (Chief Information Officer) for GE Medical Systems Europe, responsible for IT infrastructure and application implementation in Europe. Mike is relocating with his wife Sue, "and will be living in an apartment in the 16th arrondisement in Paris. The DeLonge's lived in Europe previously from 1993-1996, with their children, Marcia and Steve. Marcia is remaining in the U.S., finishing her senior year at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Steve is beginning his freshmen year at UW-Madison. Both plan on visiting their parents often. GE Medical Systems is a $9B manufacturer of medical diagnostic equipment, headquartered in Waukesha, WI....with the European Headquarters located in Buc, France (close to Paris).   Mike is also one of CUW's Hall of Fame athletes, he was inducted in 1999.

 

Rev. Dean Bell (Lay Ministry Certification, 1979) served congregations as a Lay Minister for over a decade before entering the Pastoral Ministry by colloquy and is currently pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, McIntosh, Minnesota.  He was elected by the LCMS national convention to the CUW Board of Regents.  He published an article on �With Angels and Archangels: Some Thoughts on Real-Time Worship� in the Epiphany, 2002 Logia.

 

John Farrelly (Class of 1976) has been named Director - Finance for Kohler Company's Kitchen and Bath Group.  John has been with the company since 1998 as Manager-Plumbing North America Accounting, and was named Corporate Staff Controller the following year.  Before Kohler, he was Chief Financial Officer at Richardson Industries, Inc. in Sheboygan Falls.  John is a certified public accountant, he began his career at Reilly, Penner & Benton in Milwaukee.  He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

 

Dennis Getzlaff (Class of 1970) received on August 1, 2001 the "Don Jones Memorial Coaches Courage Award" for 2001. This award is given to coaches in the Kansas area that have or are dealing with difficulties and/or health problems. Dennis is dealing with the adversity of skin cancer. Coach Getzlaff was recently quoted "Don't feel sorry for me. I have a wonderful family and have spent the last 25 years in education and basketball. It doesn't get any better than that!"
Note:  Dennis Getzlaff passed away February 2002.
