July 14, 2008 Falcon Hoops Women lead the D. 3 Nation in GPA ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll Monday. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the information submitted by WBCA-member head coaches. "I would like to say congratulations to each and every one of these teams for producing some impressive cumulative grade point averages," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "These numbers would be notable for one student-athlete alone, but for an entire team to compile overall GPAs such as this is truly remarkable. I tip my hat to these programs and wish continued success both on and off the court." | |||||

Concordia University (Wisconsin) is making its debut at the No. 1 position on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Falcons claimed back-to-back Northern Athletic Conference regular season titles and made a run at the tournament title this season, but fell short losing by just two points in overtime. Head Coach Stacey Brunner's club finished the season with 20 wins and just seven losses. The Falcons have a 43-11 record over the past two seasons.
"This is an outstanding accomplishment," said Brunner. "Like so many teams, we strive to be No. 1 off the court as well as on! I am so proud of our players for reaching this goal!"

Concordia Wisconsin Coach Competes at U.S. Olympic Trials
July 5, 2008
MEQUON, Wis. – Current Concordia Wisconsin Assistant Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach Amanda Lorenzen competed at the highest level of her storied career. On July 3, Lorenzen participated in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase Finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Three days prior to competing in the finals, Lorenzen qualified with a time of 9:58.92, to become one of fourteen racers in this elite competition. During the finals of the 3,000-meter Steeplechase event, Lorenzen finished seventh overall. The top three runners advanced to the Olympics in Beijing, China. Lorenzen finished sixteen seconds off third and twenty-two seconds behind first place finisher Anna Willard.
While competing in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase event in Eugene, OR, Lorenzen set a personal record time of 9:49.74. Preceeding the Olympic Trials, Lorenzen’s personal record was 9:51.76. Training with Team Indiana Elite and Coach Robert Chapman, Lorenzen has steadily improved her time, enough to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
“Competing at these trials was amazing. Over 21,000 fans provided the encouragement that I needed to run with the top competition in the country,” stated Lorenzen. “There is a reason why they call it ‘Track Town USA’. It's because of the electricity that those fans provide.”
Throughout Lorenzen’s historic collegiate career, she captured countless trophies in the Lake Michigan Conference and in NCAA Division III National competitions. Throughout college, she attained numerous LMC Titles, before capturing the Division III National Championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and setting a national record time of 10:07.67.
During her senior year in 2006, she garnered the honors of NCAA Division III Female Track Athlete of the Year. Lorenzen owns the distinction of being the only Concordia Wisconsin athlete to receive such an honor.
“At this point in my running career, I was very happy with my seventh place finish in the Olympic Trials,” said Lorenzen. “I will continue to train with my coach and hopefully improve and finish even higher in four years. My goal is to run in the 2012 London Olympics.”
Concordia Wisconsin Director of Athletics, Rob Barnhill acknowledges, "Amanda Lorenzen is the most highly decorated student athlete in the history of Concordia Wisconsin and is most certainly a first ballot hall of famer. Having her participate in the U.S. Olympic Trials is an affirmation of the quality of the athletic programs here at Concordia Wisconsin. Amanda has been a positive ambassador as a student athlete and that continue in her role as an assistant coach."

Our most recent CUW All American
CUW sophomore Brock Solveson (Oconomowoc) set a J.J. Keller Stadium record in the Javelin (63.35 meters) in this year's NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, WI. Solveson became the second track athlete in CUW history to earn All- American honors at the outdoor championships.
Solveson's record (63.35 Meters) was tied later in the day by Stephen Burns (Rochester Institute of Technology). Both athletes battled in the finals only to see Burns earn the national championship based on having the second best throw during the competition (58.53 compared to 58.26 meters).
Soverson's throw also established a new CUW / NAC record, breaking one already owned by Solveson. The second place finish earns Brock the honor of being named a 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field All-American.

SEASON RESULTS
SPRING RESULTS:
Concordia's Women's Outdoor track team brought home the gold this spring as they dominated the NAC field. Once again, Samantha Bloxdorf was amazing as she placed in six separate events for the Falcons. Sophomore Brock Solverson qualified for Nationals in the javelin.
Falcon softball finished the season with a 19-19 mark as shortstop Ashley Fyock concluded her impressive career with first team all conference honors.
CUW baseball wound up with an 18-19 record, losing four one run games down the stretch as they just missed the NAC playoffs. Senior first baseman Andy Becker concluded an illustrious career that saw him break several school offensive records.
WINTER RESULTS:
Our Concordia women’s basketball team finished 17-1 in the NAC and 20-7 overall. Head coach Stacey Brunner was the NAC Coach of the Year for a second consecutive campaign and junior forward Krista Mayyou was a unanimous all-league choice for the third straight year.
The CUW male hoopsters battled to an improved 14-11 record under first year coach Shawn Cassidy. Seniors Josh Atkinson and Dave Lipanot both passed the 1000 career point mark.
Our Concordia grapplers were 6-4 in duals, but injuries thwarted individual advancements to the national level. Meanwhile, Indoor track saw the CUW women repeat as champions with Adam Walker earning Coach of the Year honors. The Concordia men placed third in the league.
Multi-talented Samantha Bloxdorf scored 33 points alone in leading the CUW women to their crown while sophomore Brock Solverson paced the men with 21 points, including a first in the long jump. Each of these athletes broke a meet record in the process.
CUW hockey teams both struggled in their inaugural campaigns with almost entirely freshman squads, but both women’s coach Jim Ingman and men’s mentor Tony Hrkac have high hopes for long term success.
FALL RESULTS:
CUW football, led by All American defensive lineman Wilbur Allen, finished tied for first at 6-1 in the final year of the IBFC. The champion Falcons traveled to Bethel, MN for an NCAA playoff game.
Joe Cawley’s CUW volleyball team had a banner campaign, breaking their all-time win total and finishing with an overall 23-10 record. Sophomore hitter Katie Roessler was a unanimous all-league choice.
Both Falcon soccer squads were competitive, with the men finishing at 12-7-1 while the women ended their season at a respectable 10-9-1 after a 1-7-1 start. Striker Brian Nord received first team all region honors for Tom Saleska’s booters and senior midfielder Travis Moulton was an Academic All American.
CUW women’s tennis, paced by NAC Player of the Year Erin Henrich, went through the NAC season undefeated for the third straight year while the women’s Cross Country team also raced to another championship.
The male Falcon harriers were a very close second in the league with Micah Lorenzen winning the NAC conference and State Private Meets, plus finishing 8th in the entire region. Micah was also a National Qualifier. Lisa Dillett, second at the NAC conference meet on the women’s side, also ran extremely well at the Midwest Regionals.
CUW women’s golf improved to second in the NAC while their male counterparts were 5th of 9 competing NAC schools.
