CUW's Katie Roessler (Wauwatosa, Wis.) was named the 2008 NAC Player of the Year for volleyball. The 6' 0 junior middle hitter (above) was also a First Team All-NAC selection. She led the conference in hitting percentage (.320) and blocks (1.19 bpg), was third in kills (3.55 kpg), and tallied over 39 service aces (10th) for the Falcons (16-17, 8-4 NAC). Concordia was eliminated by undefeated Lakeland in the NAC Tournament Championship match.

CUW Welcomes Palermo's

Palermo's Pizza has agreed to be a corporate sponsor of Concordia University Wisconsin Athletics. CUW joins the Palermos Pizza family that includes sponsorships with organizations such as Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Admirals, University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, and Iowa State University.

CUW's new soccer stadium (shown below) was formally dedicated on Saturday, October 25th at 3:00pm. Special thanks to the Dean and Francine Fitting family for their donation.
Note – Time Warner Cable Sports Channel 32 will replay Saturday’s football game between Wisconsin Lutheran College and Concordia to subscribers three different times next week. The broadcasts will be televised on:
Wednesday, October 29 (12:30-3 p.m.) Thursday, October 30 (7-9:30 p.m.) Sunday, November 2 (7-9:30 p.m.)

October 21, 2008 LUTHERAN BOWL INITIATED
Saturday, October 25th , 2008 is the date set for the first annual Lutheran Bowl featuring the football squads of Wisconsin Lutheran College and Concordia University of Wisconsin. The winner of this 1:00pm showdown at Century Stadium on the Concordia Campus will be awarded the Luther Cup.
The Cup will be a traveling trophy, remaining in the victor’s possession until the Lutheran Bowl of the following year. "This is a special rivalry between two Lutheran colleges in close proximity and we have jointly chosen to create this award to promote spirited competition" stated Concordia University Director of Athletics Rob Barnhill. Both universities are members of the Northern Athletics Conference which is in its inaugural football season.

Summer Highlight
CUW Coach (Former All American) Competed at U.S. Olympic Trial Finals
MEQUON
Current Concordia Wisconsin Assistant Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach Amanda Lorenzen competed at the highest level of her storied career. On July 3, Lorenzen participated in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase Finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Three days prior to competing in the finals, Lorenzen qualified with a time of 9:58.92, to become one of fourteen racers in this elite competition. During the finals of the 3,000-meter Steeplechase event, Lorenzen finished seventh overall. The top three runners advanced to the Olympics in Beijing, China. Lorenzen finished sixteen seconds off third and twenty-two seconds behind first place finisher Anna Willard.
While competing in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase event in Eugene, OR, Lorenzen set a personal record time of 9:49.74. Preceeding the Olympic Trials, Lorenzen’s personal record was 9:51.76. Training with Team Indiana Elite and Coach Robert Chapman, Lorenzen has steadily improved her time, enough to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
Throughout Lorenzen’s historic collegiate career, she captured countless trophies in the Lake Michigan Conference and in NCAA Division III National competitions. Throughout college, she attained numerous LMC Titles, before capturing the Division III National Championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and setting a national record time of 10:07.67.
During her senior year in 2006, she garnered the honors of NCAA Division III Female Track Athlete of the Year. Lorenzen owns the distinction of being the only Concordia Wisconsin athlete to receive such an honor.

Spring Highlight
CUW All American Brock Solveson Tied a National Record
CUW sophomore Brock Solveson (Oconomowoc) set a J.J. Keller Stadium record in the Javelin (63.35 meters) in this year's NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, WI. Solveson became the second track athlete in CUW history to earn All- American honors at the outdoor championships.
Solveson's record (63.35 Meters) was tied later in the day by Stephen Burns (Rochester Institute of Technology). Both athletes battled in the finals only to see Burns earn the national championship based on having the second best throw during the competition (58.53 compared to 58.26 meters).
Soverson's throw also established a new CUW / NAC record, breaking one already owned by Solveson. The second place finish earns Brock the honor of being named a 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field All-American.
