Option A - New Athletic Fields

 

Projected Project Cost: (not including a property acquisition) $1,500,000 to $1,800,000 (in 2003 dollars).

 

The fields will be developed on property (30 acres) currently owned by the University just north of the campus off of Lake Shore Drive. Athletic field development will include: three soccer fields – one for competition and two for practice; one competition baseball field; and two softball fields. The project also contains a 2,500 gross sq. ft. facility to house toilet rooms, concessions, equipment and maintenance storage; and a paved parking lot for 200 cars, with overflow parking for an additional 200 cars. The site will be developed with a planted berm along its eastern and southern edges and a detention pond in its southwest corner (the low point of the site). The project cost includes landscaping a pedestrian walkway from the main campus to the athletic fields.

Option B - New Athletic Fields

 

Projected Project Cost: (not including a property acquisition) $1,500,000 to $1,800,000 (in 2003 dollars).

 

Athletic fields are proposed for the area south of Highland Road on property (40 acres) which will be acquired from the School Sisters of Notre Dame as part of the bluff project. The 40-acre parcel allows more space as a buffer between the fields and the neighbors. Athletic field development will include: three soccer fields – one for competition and two for practice; one competition baseball field; and two softball fields. The project also contains a 2,500 gross sq. ft. facility to house toilet rooms, concessions, equipment and maintenance storage; and a paved parking lot for 200 cars, with overflow parking for an additional 200 cars.

 

Remodeling and Upgrades To Competition Athletic Fields

 

Projected Project Cost: The estimate of the probable cost of construction is in progress.

 

The existing competition football and track facility located at the northwest corner of campus will be remodeled including the following upgrades and construction: reconfigure the existing 400 meter track to accommodate a competition soccer field; resurface the track, soccer field, and football field with synthetic turf with proper drainage; construct a concrete style bleacher and grandstand facility; construct toilets, locker rooms, and concession stands under the grandstand; construct a new press box; add field lighting and upgraded sound system. The project will also incorporate a new gateway entrance to the grandstand facilities and reserves an area southeast of the facility for permit only parking and tailgating events. The scope of work for this project is currently being developed.

 

Conversion of existing baseball field to Recreation and Intramural Fields

 

Projected Project Cost: $30,000 to $50,000 (in 2003 dollars).

 

Recreation and intramural fields will be located at the northeast corner of campus at the current location of the baseball field. This location is close to the majority of existing and future on-campus housing. Development costs will be minimal, given the area’s current use.

 
Future New 300 Stall Parking Structure

 

Projected Project Cost: $1,900,000 to $2,300,000 (in 2003 dollars).

 

A future parking structure is not proposed as part of the current Campus Master Plan. However, the existing parking lot west of the existing Field House is appropriate for additional parking beyond the approx. 1500 surface stalls proposed in various planned Campus projects. An additional floor of parking stalls above or below the existing lot will add 300 future parking stalls without the loss of landscaped open area. The project would likely include approximately 85,000 sq. ft. of new construction.
