CONCORDIA UNVEILS A MASTER'S OF

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEGREE

MEQUON, Wis. - Concordia University Wisconsin officials today announced that they have begun offering a new Master of Science in Information Technology degree.

 

According to Dr. Gary Locklair, Chair of Computer Science, "Effective IT doesn't just happen; it requires the effort of intelligent people. That's why we've developed this new master's designed for those with either vocational experience or an undergraduate education in IT-related fields. It provides all of the intellectual tools necessary to perform better and keep current with rapidly changing IT."

 

The new CUW MS IT degree program requires the student to complete 36 credits of course work (12 classes).  Required courses include: Foundations of Information Technology; Vocation and Ethical Computing; Human Computer Interaction; Database and Information Management; Systems Development: Theory and Practice; and Integrative Capstone.

 

Elective courses include: Applied Artificial Intelligence; Data Security and Information Assurance; Networking; System Design and Configuration; System Administration and Maintenance; Project Management and Web Systems and Technologies. All courses are taught by full-time CUW faculty or qualified adjunct professors.

 

Students wishing to enter into the Master's of IT program must have an undergraduate degree in an IT-related discipline, or must currently work in an IT-related field regardless of your undergraduate degree.  Students without either requirement may still be admitted provisionally after consultation with the program director.  Transcripts as well as letters of recommendation must also be turned in.

 

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer science and information technology are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2014. Employment of information and computer specialists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations as companies continue to adopt and integrate increasingly sophisticated technologies.

 

The Master of Science IT program is available by E-Learning.  Some courses will also be offered in eight week sessions on the Mequon campus.  The only residency requirement is to come to campus in order to present the final capstone project. Students can complete the MS IT program via either eLearning or on-campus instruction or a combination to suit their needs.

 

Tuition for is $480 per credit or $1,440 per course.
