MEQUON PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVES

NEW CONCORDIA RESIDENCE HALL

MEQUON, Wis. - On Monday, August 21, the City of Mequon Planning Commission gave Concordia University Wisconsin officials the green light to construct a new residence hall on campus.

The L-shaped residence hall will have 344-beds set up in 86 four-bedroom suites. It will also feature common study areas and balconies on the third and fifth floors overlooking the university's beautiful lakefront.  Image 1 - Image 2

The facility will be state-of-the-art in both architectural design and safety compliance.  It will be smoke free and alcohol free, like the entire Concordia University campus.

The residence hall will replace the current Coburg dormitory which houses 24 students, located on the northeast side of the campus, which will be razed in the coming weeks to make way for the construction of the new facility. The anticipated completion for the new hall is fall 2007.

According to President Patrick T. Ferry, "We are so pleased that the Planning Commission is supporting our university's growth plan. This new residence hall will greatly improve the appeal of our university for students who require on-campus housing."

"Today's students have high expectations for their housing. They expect individual rooms, as well as air conditioning, microwaves and refrigerators in each suite. They are also looking for internet connectivity throughout the hall, easy access to laundry facilities and common spaces for meetings and group study. This new residence hall will allow our university to meet these expectations of our incoming students."

The university currently has on-campus housing for approximately 1,000 students and houses another 100 students off-campus in a variety of apartments in Cedarburg.

Founded in 1881, Concordia University Wisconsin's main campus is located on approximately 200 acres on Lake Michigan at 12800 N. Lake Shore in Mequon. The university is home to nearly 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The university is affiliated with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is a member of the Concordia University System, a nationwide network of colleges and universities.
