ANNUAL POPS CONCERT

TO BE PERFORMED AT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY WISCONSIN

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2007

MEQUON, Wis. - Concordia University Wisconsin's music department is proud to be presenting its annual Pops Concert featuring the String Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Louis Menchaca, on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Christ Triumphant.  The Concert is entitled "Made in America."

 

This year's concert repertoire will include a significant repertoire of popular American favorites as the group prepares for an early winter tour to Athens, Greece in January 2008. Some selections will include "American Salute" by Morton Gould, "West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein, American Overture for Band by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins. March favorites including The Liberty Bell and Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa  

 

The String Ensemble will feature Tomaso Albinoni's Adagio in g minor with senior music education major Anna Karsten performing solo violin. The Jazz Ensemble will open the concert with a variety of rock and swing selections.

 

This is Menchaca's 16th year as instrumental music director at Concordia. His ensembles have toured in 38 states (including Hawaii). This will be his 3nd tour abroad.


Alumni from his ensembles continue to be recruited to serve around the United States and Central America as music directors, teachers and administrators. The group has recorded 4 compact discs of varied sacred and classical repertoire.
