Concordia University Wisconsin is proud to have several Concordia Servant Institutes (CSI). The vision of CSI is to exert a Lutheran Christian influence on our communities. CSI provides research and education outreach arms seeking to engage the culture with historical, expert, enterprising and creative programming that fills unmet needs among students and lay leaders in the church and world. CSI represents a suite of institutes and centers offering collaboration and service to Christ designed to strengthen CUW?s relationship with church-related constituents.
Concordia Bible Institute
Seeking Truth Through Scripture - Christ in Every Word
The Concordia Bible Institute exists so that others may hear the Word of God and be richly blessed by it. "Blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it."
In II Corinthians Paul tells us that we are workers together with Christ. Being His workers means that we are literally His hands, His feet, His voice bringing perfect health and life to a diseased, dying world. The Concordia Bible Institute exists for this purpose.
The Concordia Bible Institute offers courses, workshops, and presentations to bring higher learning and certificate programs to the laity of the Church and to edify Church workers.

Our vision is to address ethical issues in health care and the life sciences from a distinctively Lutheran perspective and to facilitate Concordia University Wisconsin in accomplishing its Purpose Statement of "exerting a Christian influence on the community, nation, and world" by becoming an important Protestant bioethics teaching, service, and research center.

AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
1881 Delegates from Wisconsin and Minnesota - the Northwestern District - asked Synod in Fort Wayne to erect an institution in Milwaukee. Unanimous approval was given. The funding and maintenance of the college was too big of a burden for one district, so the delegates from Illinois were asked to join in the undertaking. On September 1, 1881 an opening service was held in the basement of Trinity School.
1883 Total enrollment had grown to 73.
1886 Concordia receives a perpetual charter from the State of Wisconsin authorizing the school to provide "classical, technical and religious instruction to young men and students who desire to prepare themselves for the ministry of the Lutheran Church and also to afford convenient and suitable educational advantages for the youth whose parents or friends are identified with, or in sympathy with, the religious teaching of the Lutheran denomination."
1890 Synod approved the addition of the fifth and sixth year (junior college) with a total six-year program in the German "Vollgymnasium" tradition.
1906 At the time of the institution's 25th anniversary, total enrollment stood at 236.
1942 Rincker Memorial Library was dedicated. For the first time in its history, the school had not just a room or two for books but a whole building for them.
1961 The Lutheran Lay Training Institute was opened to serve the need for training lay members of the church and using them under pastoral supervision for specific tasks in a parish, such as evangelism and visitation. Beginning enrollment was 18 men and five women.
1965 A program of co-education was introduced, especially, but not exclusively for women who intended to become teachers, deaconesses or social workers.
1971 Through a grant, Concordia receives sixty-five acres of land on Shawano Lake, which becomes known as Whispering Pines. The retreat is used as a place of study and meditation.
1973 The last year of the high school.
1974 The takeover of the Spencerian Business College.
1978 Synod approves Concordia's request to become a four-year college.
1982 Purchase of the Mequon campus from the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The move to the campus took place in 1983.
1986 Graduate program is introduced and accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges.
1989 Board of Regents approves university status to become effective with the 1989-90 school year. Construction was completed on a $3.2 million fieldhouse.
2000 University officials launch the Spirit to Soar campaign in an effort to raise over $2 million to build a new 22,0000 square foot addition to the Athletic Training Facility.
2004 On May 14, President George W. Bush makes the university's spring commencement speech.
Enrollment is 5,200.
2005 On August 27, Concordia celebrated the start of its 125th school year with a projected undergraduate enrollment of 1,580 students. The university also begins to offer graduate courses in Wausau and Fond du Lac. The university's adult education division opens a location in Sheboygan.
