Mission for the Community

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE COMMUNITIES WHICH CONCORDIA SERVES?

How does Concordia's mission affect the various communities with which it intersects?

CUW produces graduates who are educated, capable of change, willing to learn, and ethical people ready to make a difference in the world.

Concordia's administration, faculty, and staff practice servant leadership in the various communities with which CUW intersects.  That leadership might take the form of:

  1. Speaking to topics like health care ethics or intelligent design
  2. Setting up and running a pro-bono physical therapy clinic
  3. Taking the Kammerchor on a national tour during January term

  4. Running for local political office or serving on a local civic board

  5. Consulting with local businesses

  6. Building houses for hurricane victims in Louisiana

  7. Leading a international tour of the acclaimed Alleluia Ringers

  8. Promoting ethical business practices through the CUW Award for Ethical Business Leadership

  9. Hosting the work of local artists in the Concordia Art Gallery

  10. Leading graduate nurse practitioners to provide health care in a Mexican village over spring break

  11. Conducting the Lakeshore Philharmonic Orchestra

  12. Providing continuing education opportunities for local community members.

  13. Promoting leadership and engagement through the Concordia Bible Institute, Concordia Bioethics Institute, Center for Leadership in Lutheran Schools, and the Women's Leadership Institute

  14. Offering summer sports camps for middle-school and high school aged children

Concordia works hard at being a good neighbor.  It is one of the largest employers in Ozaukee County, providing a wide variety of employment opportunities.  It makes such physical resources as the fitness center available to the community when possible.  It provides its faculty as knowledgeable speakers to local forums.

CUW works hard at being a resource to the churches of the South Wisconsin District of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.  Its graduates serve as pastors, teachers, musicians, lay ministers and lay members of many congregations.  Its Theology faculty members provide resources and support for the district's pastors, and its Education faculty members provide similarly for the district's elementary and secondary schools.  Its Institutes provide unique resources for Lutherans in Wisconsin and across the nation.  Concordia sponsors many district events; many of its student campus ministry initiatives reach back into district congregations.

Concordia serves many professional communities by preparing students for entry into those communities, by working with those communities on issues of access and certification, by providing expertise and consultation in certain areas, and by encouraging the professional development of members of those communities.
