How big a school is CUW? 5933 students were enrolled at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year - a 6% increase from the previous year. Students were divided as follows: 37% traditional undergraduate, 42% graduate and 21% non-traditional and Adult Education (based on FTE enrollment). CUW has seen a 30% increase in total enrollment over the last 10 years and has a projected enrollment of approximately 6100 students for the 2008-09 Academic year.
What are the main programs at CUW? For traditional undergraduate students, Education (27%) and Health Professions (22%) are the leading areas of enrollment. 27% of traditional undergraduates are designated as church work students. For graduate students, Education (40%) and Business (25%) have the highest enrollments. The two top majors for Adult Education students were Business Management (54%) and Criminal Justice (16%). CUW has 55 traditional undergraduate majors, 5 Adult Education majors, 6 certificate programs and 36 areas of graduate study in 10 programs.
Who graduates from CUW? 54% of all degrees awarded were Bachelor’s degrees, 26% Master’s degrees, 14% Post-baccalaureate, 3% Associate, 3% Doctoral and 1% certificates. Data from the last IPEDS reporting cycle: July 1, 2006 and July 1, 2007. The current 6 year graduation rate is 70%.
What are CUW admissions standards like? 64% of all new freshmen who applied were accepted into CUW. The average ACT score for incoming freshmen was 22 (64th national percentile) and the average high school GPA was 3.32. 33% of these students were in the top 25% of their high school class. CUW is rated as a moderately selective institution by publications such as The Princeton Review.
What is the general demographic makeup of CUW students? 65% of all students were female and 60% of traditional undergraduates were boarding students. 25% of all students were from outside of Wisconsin representing 46 states. CUW had 224 international students from a total of 26 countries .
How diverse is the CUW student body? 23% of all self-reporting CUW students were classified as minorities. When broken down by student type, 10% of traditional undergraduates and 41% of non-traditional/Adult Education students are categorized with minority status. Because of a very low response rate (44%), graduate student ethnicity is not listed. Please note: International students are not formally considered minority students.
What are CUW student’s religious backgrounds? 60% of traditional undergraduate students were Lutheran (49% LCMS). This is based on an excellent 96% response rate. For all CUW students, 1,955 reported a Lutheran affiliation (1,376 LCMS). Other top reporting religions were Roman Catholic (709) and Baptist (190).
What is the makeup of the CUW faculty? 68% of all full-time faculty have a doctorate or other terminal degree. The student faculty ratio is 13:1 and the average traditional undergraduate class size is 19. 47% are female, 6% minority and 72% Lutheran (64% LCMS). Of the total undergraduate instructional faculty (231), 42% were full-time.
How expensive is CUW? Base traditional undergraduate tuition for the 2007-08 school year is $9475 per semester. Semester room and board is $3600. These figures should be interpreted in light of the Financial Aid packages given. In 2006-07, an average of between 50 to 64% of base tuition was covered by grants and scholarships. For students with financial need (those receiving State and/or Federal aid) an average of 72% of base tuition was covered.
How many athletic programs does CUW have? CUW is an NCAA Division III school and a member of the NAC conference (IBFC football). There are 10 men’s and 9 women’s sports and 386 athletes participated in 2006-07 (124 female). CUW placed first in conference in 8 sports (men’s football, tennis and track (indoor & outdoor) and women’s basketball, tennis and track (indoor & outdoor).
What are the job placement statistics for CUW graduates? 92% of all graduates are either employed or attending graduate school within one year of graduation. 73% of CUW graduates are employed full-time and 23% are attending graduate school.
