Music
Message from the Music Department Chairman:
Thank you for visiting our web site. If you are not familiar with our school, please keep on reading. We are confident that you will be pleased as well as impressed with the opportunities that await your music aspiration here at Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW). At CUW, we feel we have the best of both worlds - the excitement and vigor of the city as well as the seclusion and safety of the suburbs. Additionally, we are pleased to announce a new collaboration with Alverno College for the Music Therapy Equivalency.
The music department finds itself at the center of the cultural, spiritual, artistic, academic and student-life aspects of university life. With major ensembles in every medium including instrumental, choral, hand-bell and contemporary Christian-the department is proud to offer a broad range of music performance opportunities. Additional opportunities are available with our annual musical theater production. These opportunities take center stage as our ensembles are called upon to perform concerts as well as official university functions. Furthermore, our touring music ensembles have gained exceptional reputations around the United States and in some parts of the world as they have been received with great acclaim wherever they perform. All conductors of these touring ensembles have great respect and reputations within their genres.
Performing ensembles, while a great strength at CUW, is only part of the picture of CUW music. Scholarly activity and applied instruction is also an enviable asset in our department. CUW offers private instruction in voice, keyboard (organ and piano) and all band/ orchestral instruments. The applied instructors on our staff, are all performing musicians in the community. Some of our part-time instructors are performers drawn from prestigious groups in the Milwaukee area such as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Present Music.
Finally, our music degree programs offer some of the finest professional training available at a small university. With undergraduate music degree programs in:
-
Liberal Arts
-
K-12 Instrumental or Choral
-
Music Therapy Equivalency with Alverno College
-
Parish Music
-
And a graduate music program - Master of church Music (organ, choral or handbell emphasis)
One additional amenity to CUW is the close proximity to Milwaukee, a city of over 1.3 million with a rich musical and artistic environment. Professional ensembles, community ensembles, national touring acts as well as many music-making opportunities are plentiful.
My colleagues join me in inviting you to explore your opportunity to make music with us at Concordia University Wisconsin.
