Physical Education
A "Nation At Risk" and "Healthy People 2010" are national studies done by the Center for Disease Control that demonstrate the critical need for schools, communities and individuals of all ages to address the deteriorating health status of our population. These studies have consistently shown that our children are watching more television, eating more high-fat foods, and exercising less. Similarly, the adult population continues to suffer from obesity and inactivity creating a myriad of health problems. These will accompany them throughout life. Health costs are soaring, placing increased demands upon our health providers. Now more than ever, physical education teachers, fitness specialists, health educators and activity sport coaches are essential to programs at all levels.
Concordia University Wisconsin has been training students in these health fields. The Health and Human Performance Programs; provide a strong foundation in a liberal arts core of courses are supported by specialized programs in one of four major degree programs, and provide two minor certification programs in Health and Athletic Coaching. Field experiences through clinical work begins immediately and continues throughout the students course of study. Concordia provides a small student to teacher ratio for a majority of its courses, emphasizing personal attention in a caring environment.
