Why Visit the Writing Center?

Thinking of visiting the Writing Center?  Here's what you should know about your upcoming appointment:

What services does the Writing Center offer?

  1. Brainstorm ideas before you start writing
  2. Discuss your paper with a responsive reader
  3. Revise your draft
  4. Strengthen argumentation and evidence usage
  5. Evaluate organization and clarity
  6. Check citation style

What should I bring to my appointment?

  1. A copy of your draft
  2. A description of the assignment guidelines
  3. Class notes or handouts that may explain your task
  4. Sources that you plan to use in the paper, ranging from class readings to information you found through research

If I have a draft, how should I prepare for my consultation?

  1. Proofread your paper by reading the text aloud before you talk to a consultant
  2. Run spell check on your computer before hitting print
  3. Outline the paper to analyze organization and flow
  4. Make a list of what aspects of your draft you would like to discuss during your session

Students with disabilities and students in need of ESL tutoring may request weekly writing consultations.  Click here to access the request form, and return a completed copy to Kathleen Volk in the LRC.
