Room Assignments & Roommates

Concordia's philosophy of room and roommate assignments is based on seniority of resident students. Although the Office of Residence Life does retain the right to make all room and roommate assignments apart from requests, every effort will be made to meet your needs as they relate to other resident students. Preference is given to those students currently living on campus and to students who meet any published deadlines.  It is to your advantage to list several choices on the Room Preference Request form and meet all published deadlines.

Concordia also believes that the roommate relationship is a partnership. We will make every effort to assign compatible roommate personalities based on the information we have at the time of the assignment. Then we expect you and your roommate(s) to work with each other on communicating and understanding each others needs. We believe that positive relationships are built in this manner. Residence Life staff are trained as resources to help you develop these relationships and are trained in team-building, conflict resolution, and peer-counseling to help make your transition to college life a smooth one.

How to apply for a room:

A housing packet will be sent to you by the Admissions Office after you have been accepted to the University.  Return all three of the items listed below to the Office of Residence Life by the published deadline.  All items must be received before the application will be processed.

  1. Residence Hall and Food Service Agreement
  2. Room Preference Request and Roommate Match Form
  3. $300 Housing Deposit

Every effort will be made to accommodate your housing request.  Please understand, however, that the Office of Residence Life retains the right to make all room and roommate assignments. If you request a roommate(s), please ensure that this person(s) also requests you on their Room Preference Request and Roommate Match Form. All parties must request each other to validate a roommate request.

Room Change Requests

We encourage roommates to resolve their issues and remain living together.  Resident Assistants are available to help residents talk out issues and try to reach an agreement.  Students who continue to have conflicts with their roommates--and who have made every effort to work things out--may request a room change after the first two weeks of either semester.

In order to request a room change, a student must meet with her/his Resident Director and submit a completed Room Change Request form (available at the Office of Residence Life or online).  Room changes will be approved based on the open spaces available at the time the requests are processed and the date the request was submitted.  Students are notified of a room change via campus mail and CUW e-mail.

Students who change rooms and fail to follow room change procedures will be subject to the Student Conduct Code.
