ADMISSION TO CUW FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
If you decide to come to Concordia University Wisconsin to seek your academic degree, you must fulfill the following requirements in order to be accepted:
- Your GPA from a previous school must be at least 3.00 to be considered for admissions to a graduate program and 2.50 to undergraduate (or equivalent to these results if a different grading system is applied). If you fulfill this requirement, go to step 2.
- You must prove your English proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The required minimum score to be accepted to CUW is at least 550 on paper, 213 on computer-based, or 81 on internet based for graduate program and 500, 173, 61 respectively for undergraduate program. You do not have to take TOEFL if you have obtained a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution where the language of instruction was English. Undergraduate students who do not have TOEFL score or whose score is lower than required can be accepted into the English as a Second Language programs.
- Carefully consider buying health insurance in your home country. In regard to the high medical costs, health insurance in the U.S. is a must. You can buy your health insurance either in your home country or in the U.S. CUW will automatically bill your account unless you show proof that you have obtained adequate health insurance coverage from your home country.
- School Transfer. If you enter the U.S. on our I-20, you must report to our school and study for a minimum of one semester at our school before transferring to another U.S. school.
Policies and Practices of the Office of International Student Services
F-1 student who are completing their final course for their degree via E-Learning will not be eligible to apply for post-completion OPT. The rationale for this policy is that the student could have done the E-Learning course earlier during their program of study and should have planned their courses accordingly. CUW had previously allowed students to apply for OPT when their last course was done through E-Learning; however, every student that had applied for OPT while finishing through E-Learning was unsuccessful in completing the final course by anticipated end date. As a result, CUW has instituted this policy.
International students who have failed to maintain their F-1 status at any time may not be eligible for curricular practical training and/or optional practical training. This includes students who have habitually paid their school fees late as CUW considers paying school fees on time as part of the maintenance of their F-1 status. Each student's eligibility will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for a determination of whether or not CPT and/or OPT will be recommended.
