B.A. Degree in Lay Ministry

This is a traditional, undergraduate B.A. degree program available on campus at Concordia University Wisconsin.  The degree has a double major in theology and lay ministry.  Students select two areas in which to specialize as part of the Lay Ministry Major.  The areas are evangelism, missions, parish teaching, social ministry, and youth ministry. 

 

Objectives:

To prepare men and women for professional work in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in specific areas of service open to the laity by providing solid grounding in theology and relevant, experiential field training.  

 

To provide certification for the rostered position of Commissioned Minister of Religion-Lay Minister in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

 

Description of Areas of Specialization:

Evangelism Specialists

Evangelism specialists assist congregations in outreach ministry by focusing on leading people to Jesus Christ.

 

Mission Specialists

Mission specialists serve the church with special skills in taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ across cultural boundaries.

 

Parish Teaching Specialists

Parish teaching specialists serve congregations using skills in Christian education to administer education ministries such as vacation Bible school and Sunday School.

 

Pre-Deaconess students take course work in social work and Christian care giving preparation for further study at the Masters level at the LCMS seminaries both of which have deaconess training programs.

 

Social Ministry and Visitation Specialists

These specialists serve congregations and communities using skills in nurturing persons with special needs with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

 

Youth Ministry Specialists

Youth Ministry specialists serve congregations with family ministries focusing on youth.  They have skills for discipleship formation, expertise in relational ministry with youth, and ability to administer youth programs.
