Dr. Alberto L. Garcia has been at Concordia since the 1991-92 academic year. He holds the rank of Professor of Theology and has served as Director of the Lay Ministry and Teacher Colloquy Programs since 1992. Dr. Garcia has held the following academic positions: Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology and Director of Hispanic Studies at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN; adjunct professor of religion and culture at Florida International University, Miami, Florida; adjunct professor for Summer Program and for Hispanic Studies Program at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. He has also served as a visiting professor in Panamá, Cuba, Slovakia and Argentina. He is cited in Who's Who in Religion, and in Hispanic Christianity within Mainline Protestant Traditions for his contributions to theology. He has published six books and forty theological articles in several theological journals. His most recent books are Cristología (CPH, 2006), Introducción a la Teología y Vida de Lutero (Abingdon, 2008). He is also a contributor of over 100 entries/ articles to the following theological works: Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010); Westminster Dictionary of Theologians (Westminster, 2006) and Diccionario Ilustrado de Interpretes de la Fe: Veinte Siglos de Pensamiento Cristiano (Editorial DILEC, 2004). He is presently engaged in co-editing Critical Issues in Ecclesiology for Wm Eerdmans. His educational journey includes an A.A. degree in the Pre-Ministerial Program of Concordia College, Austin, TX, a B.A. degree with honors in philosophy from Florida Atlantic University and a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL. He continued his graduate studies at the Lutheran School of Theology and Chicago, obtaining Th.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Systematic Theology. His other fields of study include mission theology and Reformation history. Dr. García was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1974. He has served pastorates in Chicago, IL and Hollywood, FL. He has also served the LCMS in several boards. He has served in two occasions as president of the National Hispanic Convention of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He currently serves as chair of the BOD of the Cuban Lutheran Fellowship.
