Dr. Susan Mobley is Associate Professor of History at CUW and also serves as Chair of the History Department.  Dr. Mobley earned her B.A. in Journalism/Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma in 1991.  She received her M.A. (1993) and Ph.D. (1998) in European History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

Her dissertation, entitled “Confessionalizing the Curriculum: The Faculties of Arts and Theology at the Universities of Tübingen and Ingolstadt in the Second Half of the Sixteenth Century,” examined the impact of the Reformation upon both a Catholic and a Lutheran university.

Her area of specialty is Reformation history, particularly higher education in Germany during the 16th century.  At CUW, she teaches various European history courses (Classical World, Middle Ages, Early Modern Europe) as well as Historical Methods and Latin.  She has been teaching at CUW since Fall 1998.

She has been the recipient of several fellowships, including a Fulbright Graduate Fellowship, and has presented numerous times at the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference.  Recently, she has worked on translating several of Luther’s sermons for Luther’s Works: American Edition to be published by CPH.

Dr. Mobley is married to Dr. Van Mobley, Associate Professor of History and Economics at CUW.  They have two sons and live in Thiensville.
