Dr. James Juergensen currently serves Concordia University as Dean of the School of Education, Professor of Graduate/Undergraduate Education and Asian Studies, and Concordia's Certifying Officer for the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He has been at Concordia since 1985.
Dr. J (as he is known to students) teaches courses in both graduate and undergraduate education, adult education, Asian history, telecourses, and E-Learning. He supervises student teachers and carries a full load of advisees. As Dean, he is responsible for our undergraduate and graduate programs in education. He serves on the Academic Council and the International Study Council, along with a number of faculty committees. He was honored by the students by being chosen as "Advisor of the Year" in 1999, and by his colleagues on the faculty by being selected as Faculty Laureate (Teacher of the Year) in 1988. He was also selected as the "Wisconsin Teacher Educator of the Year" in 2003 by the WSCD.
Dr. Juergensen served as teacher and coach in Lutheran schools in New York, principal at L.I. Lutheran High School and The American School in Japan, and Superintendent Rockford Lutheran High School Association in Illinois. His B.A. was in Social Studies and Theology from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, Master's in History & International Relations from Nebraska University, and Master?s, Professional Diploma, and Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from St. John?s University in New York City.
Dr. J?s personal mission statement comes from Ephesians 4:11-13: "Whatever your calling?Equip the saints for the work of service, to build up the body of Christ?. and become more mature believers."
