Dr. Mary H. Korte has been a member of the Department of Natural Sciences at Concordia University Wisconsin since 1994. She teaches science content courses for preservice education students (Sci 155, Principles of Physical Science, and Sci 150, Principles of Life Science), Ecology of the Tropics, Environmental Science, and Introduction to Earth Science.
Dr. Korte received the B.S. degree from the College of William and Mary, the M.S. degree from Southern Illinois University, and the Ph.D. degree from Trinity College and Theological Seminary. She is also a Diplomate of the International Academy of Apologetics and Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Beta Beta, Chi Delta Phi, and Omicron Psi honorary societies. Her master?s research, Simplifications of the Diel Curve Method for Determining Primary Productivity, was supported by a National Science Foundation grant. Her doctoral dissertation was Vision and Ethos in Lutheran Higher Education at Concordia University Wisconsin, and she presented a thesis titled The Promise of Evidential Apologetics for Lutheran Higher Education at the Academy in Strasbourg.
Dr. Korte is a called LCMS teacher who is committed to integrating faith with science in each course she teaches. She is particularly interested in coral reef biology and marine ecosystems and enjoys taking a group of CUW students to the Caribbean each year for field work in the tropics, including ?fins-on? experience snorkeling in the coral reefs or playing with the dolphins! She plans to take a group of students to Cura?ao in January, 2006, to study the biology of marine mammals and coral reef ecosystems.
Her hobbies include ?fish-watching,? snorkeling, singing in the Concordia Chorale and choir of St. John?s Lutheran Church, traveling, studying Christian apologetics, and riding her thoroughbred horse, Bree. Her husband, Don W. Korte, Jr. also teaches at Concordia.
