The Learning Resource Center is designed to accommodate your needs with convenient, easy-to-access online services. But hey, if you’re willing to visit us on campus, we are more than willing to help students in our Writing Center and our Math Drop-in Desk.

SMARTHINKING – Online Tutoring

It’s all about free, 24/7 access to our online tutoring program, featuring:
  • Drop-in Tutoring: Log in to see if there’s a tutor available on the fly—no appointment needed
  • Scheduled Tutoring: Set up a time to have a tutoring session
  • Offline Questions: You can also ask questions and receive responses (usually within 24 hours)
  • Writing Lab: Submit a paper to the writing lab for review with an average turnaround of 24 hours
  • Academic Resources: This is where you find our many manuals and tutorials on math, writing, and basic study skills  


  1. Log-in to one of your blackboard classes
  2. Clicking on “Tutoring Options” (located on the left side of the page)
  3. Selecting “Smarthinking”

Online Writing Lab (OWL)

Need help writing or editing a paper? Submit it to our Online Writing Lab (OWL).

Staffed by CUW students, OWL is reserved for center-based, online, and graduate students. For more information and/or to submit a paper, hit up the OWL webpage.

Additional LRC Services

  • All students are welcome to visit the Math Drop-In Desk and/or Writing Center for on-campus consultations.
  • The LRC partners with center directors to find in-person tutors for students taking accelerated coursework.
