Plenary faculty vote to provide a pass/fail option for undergraduate students

April 9, 2020

As a result of the effect of COVID-19, and in direct response to student petitions, Concordia’s plenary faculty voted to provide an exception to its normal grading policy for spring 2020.

Good afternoon, all!

I am providing you with an update on Concordia’s response to challenges students might experience during this very unusual time.

As a result of the effect of COVID-19 on Concordia’s undergraduate students and in direct response to student petitions, on 8 April 2020 Concordia’s plenary faculty voted to provide an exception to its normal grading policy for spring 2020. In an initiative led by Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs Leah Dvorak, and encouraged by President Ferry, plenary faculty chose to provide a pass/fail option for undergraduate students. This option balances the maintenance of academic rigor in our academic courses with an opportunity for students to choose a pass/fail course grade option if they believe that the circumstances of the COVID-19 situation will have had a negative effect on any of their academic work.

Early next week, we will provide you with more detail about the policy exception and its potential impact on you. We will be able to answer question about the policy exception at that time.

In the meantime, may God bless you this Easter holiday! May your longer holiday weekend be filled with at least some rest and/or relaxation.

In His service,
William R. Cario, Ph.D.
