Cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars for the second annual Concordia University Criterium event, to be held on Concordia’s Mequon campus on May 29.
The event, part of the Wisconsin Cup Series, is sponsored by VeloCause Centraal Cycling, a team of masters-level bicycle racers who share a desire to give back to the communities that support them.
A portion of the proceeds from the race will go to the Concordia University Sarah Cripe Memorial Scholarship, which supports students pursuing a degree in Pharmacy.
Those interested in competing can register prior to the event, at www.usacycling.org/events, for a discounted rate, or on the day of it. Day-of registration opens at 8 a.m. and closes 15 minutes before each race. Those who compete in two or more races will receive a reduced registration fee of $10 for each race beyond the first.
Races start at 8:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day, with the final race scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m. Concordia is located at 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive.
Race categories are broken down according to gender, age (starting at 10 years old), and skill level. Competitors can win either merchandise or cash prizes of up to $200 for each race.
The mandatory USA Cycling insurance and Wisconsin Cycling Association surcharge are included in entry fees. Riders without a USAC racing license must purchase a one-day license for an additional $10.
Helmets must be worn at all times. No alcohol will be permitted on campus grounds.
USAC and WCA scoring and rules will apply, read them here.
