Concordia University Wisconsin’s Veterans Services Department received a $3,000 grant Tuesday afternoon from the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs during a ceremony in Madison.
Ed Garza, director of veterans services, received the award at the state capitol from Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and John Scocos, Wisconsin Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Concordia was one of only three schools to receive a non-profit grant, with a total of $250,000 awarded to 42 non-profit entities. “We’ll utilize this money to provide additional resources to veterans pursuing their education at Concordia,” noted Garza.
Garza, who was instrumental in establishing the first American Legion post on a Wisconsin college campus, was recently named to the board of directors of the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce.
