October 27th Concert part of Reformation Week activities

As the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation on October 31 nears, Concordia University Wisconsin’s music department will present a celebration on Friday, October 27 as part of a number of weeklong activities.

The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in The Chapel of the Christ Triumphant on the university’s main campus, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive. Selections from all ensembles will include audience participation, along with accompaniment of the 64 rank Steiner Reck organ.

The week’s activities begin with an Opening Reception on Monday, October 23 from 6-7 p.m. in the Art Gallery for a faculty/student Reformation themed show. An all-day symposium on Wednesday starts with a community breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Robert Benne, professor emeritus at Roanoke College in Virginia, will deliver a keynote presentation in the chapel from 10:30-12 entitled, “On Vocation.”

Concordia’s School of Education is holding an essay contest for high school students, with cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 awarded to the top three essays addressing, What difference does the Lutheran Reformation make in the world today? Entries, with a cover sheet detailing name, age, grade level, contact information, and school name, are due by 5 p.m. Friday, October 13 to lutheressay@cuw.edu.

The week will be capped off by the Milwaukee Festival Reformation Service at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 29 in the chapel.
