The Concordia Players will open their 2017-2018 theatre season with a production of “The Music Man,” Thursday, November 9-Sunday, November 12. The curtain rises in the university’s Todd Wehr Auditorium on campus, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. A 1:30 p.m. matinee is set for Sunday.

Professor Lori Woodall-Schaufler will produce the popular Meredith Willson show, which became a Broadway hit in 1957 and won five Tony Awards. Teresa Drews, a Milwaukee-area actress who has performed in a number of area shows with Woodall, will direct. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for veterans, $3 for students, and are free for children under 12.

Cast in the female lead as Marian is Leanna Brice, a senior from Cedarburg, WI, while alumnus Colin Murdy will play the male lead of Harold Hill. “We have an exceptionally strong cast,” said Woodall, who noted the number of students auditioning for performances has tripled since she started 10 years ago.

Other shows this school year are: “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” February 29-March 4, and “Our Town,” April 26-29, 2018, the former geared for children. A number of area elementary schools will pack the auditorium for performances. While no summer show will be held next year – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was staged in the President’s Courtyard this past July – Woodall is planning another family-oriented show in July, 2019.
