Program Overview

CUW's flexible Master of Science in Applied Exercise Science program builds the academic and research skills you'll need to enter a variety of exercise science fields. New students may begin the program in the fall or spring.

Learning Outcomes

In our graduate program you'll study:

  • Exercise physiology and applied kinesiology in applied settings
  • Functional assessment, training and conditioning, rehabilitation, and injury prevention
  • How the cardiorespiratory, nervous and musculoskeletal systems respond to physical activity
  • Current topics in exercise science
  • Techniques to design, implement and evaluate research
  • Metabolic processes that affect weight control

Entrance Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a field related to exercise science
  • If undergraduate degree is not in an exercise science field, completion of these prerequisites:
  • A full year of Human Anatomy and Physiology, and
  • One semester in Exercise Physiology
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or above for full acceptance
  • Minimum grade of C in Exercise Physiology and Anatomy and Physiology


The Applied Exercise Science curriculum includes coursework in cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular exercise physiology, weight control, kinesiology and research. A wide variety of electives are also available in categories such as student personnel administration, counseling, education, and business. See our course catalog for details.
