           CONCORDIA MEANS BUSINESS

Dr. William G. Ellis, Dean

School of Business

& Legal Studies

The Program

Concordia University School of Business and Legal Studies prepares students to assume rewarding and responsible leadership roles in organizations and related professional activities. A three part curriculum that includes a liberal arts core, a business common core, and a field of concentration is used to achieve these goal. The average class size for upper level classes is 10-25 students. There is a 100% job placement rate within 6 months of graduation. Our faculty all have experience in the area in which they teach and we do not use teaching or graduate assistants.

The Business Division

The concentration courses provide the students with an opportunity to specialize and obtain competencies and skills within a certain area of business.  Areas that are offered as concentrations are:

  1. Accounting
  2. Actuarial Science
  3. Business Scholars
  4. Economics
  5. Economics/Finance
  6. Finance
  7. General Business
  8. International Business
  9. Management
  10. Marketing

The business common body-of-knowledge is required of all business graduates. This provides students with an understanding of the dynamics of the firm, introduction to the functional areas of the organization, basic managerial and organizational concepts and an overall view of policy making. This common core enables students to develop their critical and analytical skills.

There are also complimentary majors/minors including business education, economics, finance, legal studies, marketing, computer science and psychology that students may wish to pursue.

The liberal arts core provides students with the intellectual and self knowledge skills to understand themselves and their world.

The Business Division holds Accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

        Travel Opportunities

The International Business major requires that students spend one semester abroad.  All business students are eligible for the Study Abroad Program.  The Dean of the School of Business and Legal Studies is the representative for Regent College in London.  Other study abroad opportunities are available through the Director of National and International Studies.

        The Legal Studies Division

The Legal Studies Division of the School of Business offers a major in Justice and Public Policy (Criminal Justice) and a minor in Legal Studies.  Graduates of the JPP program obtain positions in the fields of law enforcement, criminal investigation, security management, corrections, intelligence operations, probation and parole, and court administration.  The JPP major can also serve as a foundation for study at graduate schools and law schools.

The minor provides an excellent background in law and legal reasoning for those students contemplating law school after graduation from Concordia and also appeals to students in business, education, and criminal justice who increasingly find themselves subject to various laws and government regulations.

All of the instructors in the Legal Studies Division have real-life experience as law enforcement officers, attorneys, or judges.  they bring a wealth of knowledge to the classroom to share with students.
