Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification
Concordia University Wisconsin offers an adult accelerated post-baccalaureate teacher certification program for individuals who wish to be certified to teach in elementary and middle schools as well as high schools. Individuals interested in these programs must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. These programs are available at our Mequon, Madison, and Appleton campuses. Each of the programs described below are offered in an evening, accelerated format.
Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Programs
Program Highlights
- Provides Wisconsin Certification in Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence (Grades 1-8) through the Teacher Certification Program-Elementary (TCP-E) Program OR in Early Adolescence through Adolescence (Grades 6-12) in various content areas through the Teacher Certification Program Secondary (TCP-S).
- TCP-E classes meet once a week in the evenings and on seven Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The 22-month program also includes a full-time semester of student teaching.
- TCP-S classes meet once a week in the evenings. The 16-month program also includes a full-time semester of student teaching.
- TCP-E and TCP-S cohorts begin each year in February or September. Check with the specific campus you want to attend to confirm start dates. Cohorts run given an adequate number of qualified accepted applicants.
Admission Requirements
- A bachelor's degree with core requirements satisfied (TCP-E) or a bachelor's degree in one of the certifiable majors with the major requirements satisfied (TCP-S).
- Official Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) reports that show passing scores for Wisconsin (Reading 175, Writing 174, Math 173).
- An overall grade point average of 2.75 with a GPA of 2.75 in any major or minor or other area in which you will be requesting certification.
- Availability and willingness to complete 90 hours of clinical observation prior to student teaching including a supervised, pre-student teaching Practicum.
- Availability and willingness to student teach full-time during the final semester of the program.
- Successful completion of a Department of Justice Background Check.
- Willingness to take the Praxis II: Subject Assessments (Prior to Student Teaching, the Teacher Certification Candidate must receive a passing score for any subject area in which that candidate is expecting licensure.)
Completion of the Application Process
- Provide transcripts for evaluation and have a follow up discussion with Program Coordinator.
- Submit to a background check
- Submit the following to the CUW location that you wish to attend including the following:
- Non-refundable application fee of $35.00
- Letter of Intent stating your reasons for pursuing teacher certification
- Two letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts (in a sealed envelope) from ALL undergraduate/graduate institutions
- Have an official PPST score report sent to the proper CUW location.
- The deadline for Fall applications is July 1st and the deadline for Spring applications is November 15th. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
