What You’ll Learn in the Music Program

Our Music program will teach you:

  • Music theory including sight-singing, aural training, composition, and harmonic study
  • Chord study including primary chords in inversion, seventh chords, secondary dominants, altered chords and chromatic harmony
  • Fundamental conducting principles such as baton techniques, beat patterns, analytical skills, non-verbal expression and gestures
  • Music history and forms of the Medieval, Baroque,  Pre-Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century periods
  • A wide variety of music traditions from around the globe 
  • The skills you’ll need to excel in your chosen performance medium
  • How music symbolizes our way of life and cultural style
  • How changing technologies shape the sounds, settings, and significance of musical experience
