As a Data Scientist, you extract, visualize, and communicate information from large volumes of data and work in a variety of areas such as Public Health, Sports and Human Performance, and Environmental Issues.
This program is also offered as a minor.
Through this program's curriculum, you will gain knowledge from four main areas of study: math and statistics, computer science, data science and analytics, and communication. The program emphasizes using tools from statistics, mathematics, and technology to extract valuable information from large sets of data and skills from communication to convey information and insights to a broad audience.
As a DSAA student, you may select a concentration in Public Health, Environmental Issues, or Sport and Human Performance to learn context, vernacular, and key issues of a particular field. Some learning outcomes for this program include:
- Analyze and interpret data using an ethical approach stemming from a Christian worldview
- Demonstrate the ability to select the appropriate statistical analysis and execute using statistical software
- Discern appropriate algorithms and software tools as they apply to problem-solving in various user domains
- Apply data science and analytics concepts and strategies to solve real-world problems
