The Medical Assistant profession is one of the fastest growing occupations, and Medical Assistants are in high demand. The CUW Medical Assistant program is a certificate program and has a blended learning format, which means that your education will take place both online and face-to-face.This program can be completed in 15 months of full-time study. The majority of the content will be presented online, with additional class time one day a week for 6 hours face-to-face to perform practical skills.

Program Overview

This Medical Assistant certificate is designed to help you develop the professional competencies and commitment you need to be a responsible participant and leader in the health care field. This blended program is designed to equip you with the ability to excel in a variety of administrative and clinical duties at a host of health-care facilities. Learn the in-demand skills through our flexible online classrooms and prove your proficiency in face-to-face assessments. With our instruction and your dedication, you’ll have the opportunity to develop the professional competencies needed to be a responsible participant and leader in health care.

Our program will teach you how to:

  • Communicate effectively with patients
  • Perform rescue breathing, CPR, use a defibrillator, and care for choking victims
  • Establish, document, and maintain medical records
  • Perform your duties within legal and ethical boundaries
  • Use computer software for scheduling and maintaining records
  • Administer medication and assist with minor office surgery
  • Handle basic medical office functions including coding, insurance, and practice finances
  • Sterilize and sanitize equipment
  • Obtain and record vital signs
  • Prepare patients for examinations
  • And much more.

What to Expect

Upon graduation, students have found work in doctor offices and/or clinics in many specialties, including Pediatrics, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Urgent Care, and OB.  Medical Assistants can also work in the lab doing venipuncture and/or with insurance companies.
