Empower students as learners

The study of biology connects us to the world we live in and reminds us of the awe-inspiring intricacies of the Lord’s creation. This is your opportunity to share your appreciation of wonders great and small with students. From the largest ecosystem to the smallest microorganism, each organism and system is designed to seamlessly work together – and this biology minor will inspire you to turn your classroom into an ecosystem connected by learning.

Program Overview

When you minor in biology, you can anticipate learning both inside and outside of the typical classroom. Sure, you’ll attend lectures, but you’ll also participate in labs and field research to obtain hands-on experience that will become vital when you’re at the front of your own classroom. Many of the required classes are taken in the Concordia Center for Environmental Stewardship, a LEEDS Platinum facility designed specifically for laboratory courses that emphasize fieldwork and environmental ethics.

The required coursework provides a foundation in the biological sciences, while you strengthen your educational chops. It’s the kind of supplement to your Secondary Education degree that will help you know precisely how to turn your classroom into a proper laboratory for your students, whether they’re middle schoolers just beginning to dive into their science journey or seniors in high school who aren’t very far removed from where you are in your life at this very moment.
