Presidential Search

Work continues; status update

The work to identify the next president of Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor (CUWAA) continues. Currently, the work focuses on defining the institution’s needs and describing the desired characteristics of the new president, while preparing for the formal Call for Nominations (LCMS bylaw 3.10.6.6.2 (b)).

Rev. Dr. Dean Wenthe, the President of the Concordia University System will convene an in-person conference with the Search Committee, CUWAA Board of Regents, and the Prior Approval Panel of The Lutheran Church─Missouri Synod (LCMS) on May 13, 2021. The group will discuss the necessary candidate qualifications and search criteria (LCMS bylaw 3.10.6.6.2 (b)(2)). Following this meeting, the Search Committee anticipates opening the Call for Nominations in mid-to-late May. Likely, the Call will remain open until the end of June or the middle of July.

Currently, the Search Committee is conducting an institutional self-study. This work supports the development of a comprehensive description of the University’s strengths, challenges, and the perceived needs, attributes, and characteristics desired in the next president (LCMS bylaw 3.10.6.6.2 (b)(2)).

A Community Survey was widely available March 1-30, 2021 through the search website. Respondents reflected a wide array of critical stakeholder groups including students, faculty and staff, donors and friends, community and LCMS members.

Throughout April, the committee is conducting 17 listening sessions with these same constituent groups. Together, the survey and listening session results will reveal the primary attributes, experiences, values, and capabilities that key constituent group stakeholders desire in Concordia University’s next president. The input will inform the Search Committee as it develops written criteria with which to screen candidates, and will guide the Board of Regents in its election of the new president (LCMS bylaw 3.10.6.6.2 (b)(3)).
