Well, your door of opportunity leads to this program at Concordia University, which can be completed in 12-14 months and is available almost entirely online – with the exception of two required residencies. The Student will earn a Specialist Certificate in this program.

Program Overview

The Superintendent or School District Administrator Licensure program is designed for those who are called to play a very specific and important role in the field of education. A role of leadership. If you’ve already obtained your Master’s and administrator’s license, and you want to maximize the number of individuals you impact in your daily role, this program provides a perfect opportunity for you. Especially if you’re already a school principal or an education administrator. Completing this program means you’ll earn the WI #5003 Superintendent’s license. It also means you’ll be equipped with the leadership skills you need to guide public, private, and parochial schools, stay current with contemporary theories and practices, and enhance your professional goals. Classes are taught by those holding a  Ph.D., and/or Ed.D. and have experience as a school administrator.  The academic work that leads to a Superintendent License and Specialist Certificate is post-Master’s degree work.

What to Expect

This program will help you meet Wisconsin Administrator Standards related to the Superintendency, while also helping you identify significant social, political, and economic forces that influence the Superintendency. You’ll develop the ability to discern the fundamental characteristics of effective educational leadership. The Superintendent Licensure program studies  leadership theories, motivational strategies, facility planning,  organizational skills delegation of authority, stakeholder relations, data analysis,  communication networks, problem solving, systems development, program evaluation, curriculum evolution, professional ethics, public relations, and strategic planning and implementation.

Earning a Specialist Certificate will teach you how to assess the congruency between educational governance, strategic planning/management, and implementation initiatives, as well as how to identify the fundamental components of successful change initiatives. You’ll learn how to use problem-solving and decision-making models to develop practical solutions for addressing governance, administrative, and educational problems and opportunities. And finally, you’ll learn how to recognize effective and ineffective educational leadership in local school settings, while sharpening your own leadership skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary that will make you an effective superintendent.
