Enjoy Residence Life at Concordia

Living on campus is a fantastic opportunity to interact with other students from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. You can fully soak in the true “college experience,” by getting involved in the social, intellectual, physical, cultural, and spiritual events CUW offers. The best part of living on campus? You can sleep in longer each morning because your classroom is just a short walk away. And did we mention that all of our residence halls, dining halls, and classrooms are connected by an underground tunnel system so you don't have to walk outside in the snow unless you want to? Yeah, we like that, too.

Our perspective of living on campus

At Concordia University, our mission is to develop students in mind body and spirit for service to Christ in the church and in the world. In Residence Life we have an opportunity to begin that development “in the world” in our residential community, beginning with roommates. Our students are supported to develop in several areas of life:

Personal Growth/Development

Paul prays in Philippians for our love to grow in knowledge and insight. He goes on to say that we should not just be focused about our own interests, but in the interests of others as well. Sharing living space with someone who may have different habits, backgrounds, or perspectives can foster adaptability and empathy.

Conflict Resolution

Learning to navigate conflicts with a roommate builds crucial conflict resolutions skills for personal and professional life. Here at Concordia, we use a biblical approach rooted in forgiveness, reconciliation, and brotherly love. Scripture tells us to strive for peace with everyone and to be kind and forgiving just as God has forgiven us.

Social Connectedness

The US Surgeon General has declared a Loneliness Epidemic in our country. Learning how to build a relationship with a roommate is the first step to practicing social connectedness and combating loneliness. Proverbs says that if we have bad friends or no friends at all that we will experience ruin, but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. You may not become best friends with your roommate, but developing a relationship with them will grow your relationship skills and help you to find that friend that sticks closer than a brother or sister.

Time Management

James tells us that we do not know what will happen tomorrow and that we should makes the most of today. Coordinating schedules and responsibilities with a roommate can teach valuable time management and organization skills. It encourages students to be more responsible in their daily routines.

Networking Opportunities

Proverbs tells us that iron sharpens iron, meaning that as a community we are stronger and more complete than if we were just a bunch of individuals. Roommates can introduce each other to new people, helping them expand their social networks, which can prove to be personally and professionally rewarding.
