Award-winning author Dr. Jan Richardson will speak at this year's event.

Concordia's Graduate Education Department is pleased to announce its 5th Annual Literacy Institute. Featured speaker Dr. Jan Richardson will lead this day-long workshop highlighting her ground-breaking work on The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading.

--MAKING DECISIONS IN GUIDED READING--

The title of Dr. Richardson's workshop for the 2020 Literacy Institute is "Making Decisions in a Guided Reading Lesson."

Participants will explore the guided reading instructional decisions needed to move readers forward in the elementary grades. Decision points include using assessments to group the students and pinpoint a focus; choosing an appropriate text; prompting for strategic processing; targeting phonics skills for guided word study; and integrating the reading and writing. Learn how targeted guided reading lessons can accelerate all students.
