Concordia University Wisconsin and Concordia Seminary are please to debut this pilot, online course for pastors.

This course marks a first-time partnership for the two schools in the area of online pastoral continuing education offerings.

Scripture in Counseling will be taught by Concordia Seminary's Rev. Dr. Richard Marrs and CUW's Rev. Dr. Daniel Paavola, and will focus on the following topics:

  • Scriptural counseling
  • COVID-19/Pandemic issues
  • Counseling through trauma and tragedy
  • Counseling a fellow shepherd


  • This course begins Sept. 8, 2020
  • The sessions are asynchronous, meaning they can be completed at any time after the launch date.
  • The opening session will take place live from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 8, but will be available for on-demand viewing as well. A closing session will also be held live via web conference and recorded for later viewing.
  • The course is affordable at $99 and accessible to all in an online format.
  • Pastors can earn 6.0 CEU credits.
  • Courses (offered over six weeks) include video lectures, optional readings, recommended assignments, and peer discussion activities.


The course is especially appropriate for ordained LCMS pastors, commissioned church workers, and lay leaders.
