Real stories. Real impact.

First Thursdays is an opportunity to learn about social work values that are implemented in the real world. Through the eyes of each month's speaker, students gain an in-depth look at social work careers, how social work values apply, and gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a social worker. Many of these values apply interprofessionally, so we welcome other professions to join us!

This month we will be exploring the social work value of Dignity & Worth of a Person--treating every individual with respect, recognizing their inherent value, and promoting their capacity for self-determination.

Margarita Drumgoole, MSW, LCSW has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and is licensed in the state of Wisconsin as a Clinical Social Worker. Throughout many years of working in the social work field she has worked with veterans, domestic violence survivors, child welfare, unhoused populations, as well as mental health, legal and community programs. Through this work she found she greatly enjoys helping individuals find and regain their independence and enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skill developments are often used in courses as well with films, readings, and discussions that encourage learners to think differently and beyond their own individual perspectives.
