Program Overview

Our online superintendent licensure program is designed for those who are called to play an important role in building and sustaining high levels of education for all students. Upon completion of this district administrator program, you will have the leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills to effectively guide a school district in the 21st century. This 21-credit program is for individuals who have already obtained their master's degree and hold or are eligible for an educational administrator's license, with 15 of the 21 credits eligible to be put towards Concordia's online doctorate in education.

What to Expect

Classes are taught by instructors who hold an Educational Specialist Ph.D., and/or Ed.D. and have experience in higher-level positions in school districts. We recognize students at this level have demanding schedules so Concordia offers new classes that start every eight weeks. The 21-credit superintendent licensure is designed as a 2-year program, but it can be completed in 12-18 months. There are two meeting components that historically have required attendance on campus, but of course, there is always flexibility within this program.

Students who desire licensure in another state must contact their state department of education for details about whether or not this coursework will meet state requirements.  Students from outside of Wisconsin may be able to take this program without teacher licensing.

Our online program will help you meet Wisconsin Administrator Standards for the role of a Superintendent while also showing you how to identify significant social, political, and economic forces that influence this position. You will develop the ability to discern the fundamental characteristics of effective educational leadership. Studies include these comprehensive topics that will improve your value as a future Superintendent:

  • Leadership theories
  • Motivational strategies
  • Facility planning
  • Delegation of authority
  • Stakeholder relations
  • Data analysis
  • Communication networks
  • Systems development
  • Program evaluation
  • Curriculum evolution
  • Professional ethics
  • Public relations
  • Strategic planning
  • Problem-solving for governance, administrative and educational opportunities/issues
